Jietae Lee (Kyungpook National University) When operating points are not changing, the linear PI controllers designed based on the linearized models for given set points can be used. A large number of tuning rules are available for linear PI controllers. When operating points are changing for nonlinear processes, linearized model parameters will also change. For nonlinear processes with mild changes of linearized model parameters, robust linear PI controllers designed based on the averaged or the worst-case model parameters can be used. For nonlinear processes with highly nonlinear terms whose linearized model parameters change severely as the operating points change, PI controller parameters should be changed for better closed-loop performances. Here experimental studies such linear controllers with varying coefficients and nonlinear controllers will be presented.
